On March 27, 2024, English-speaking feminists from different countries in the global South gathered for the first English-language consultation to create the South Feminist Manifesto, an initiative coordinated by the organisation South Feminist Futures.
The discussion focused on the five pillars and the importance of creating a shared political vision for South Feminist organising. We also explored the challenges of confronting hegemonic powers, including white men in suits, and the need for communities, particularly women, transgender, and LGBTIQ communities, to have agency over their own lives. The conversation also touched on the need for a new knowledge base for South feminist activism, the complex relationship between feminists and institutions of higher learning, and the challenges of getting funding from donors with different agendas. Lastly, the team discussed reimagining and redesigning future development models to create an inclusive and intersectional world and the importance of community-led development.
